Procedure of prior notification of import of non-animal origin food in European Union:

For certain products import in EU food business operators must pre-notify DPEs at least one working day before the physical arrival of the consignment by completing Part I of the Common Entry Document (CED) which can be found at Annex II of

Commission Regulation (EC) No 669/2009 of 24 July 2009 implementing Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the increased level of official controls on imports of certain feed and food of non-animal origin and amending Decision 2006/504/EC - guidance on completing the CED can also be found in Annex II.

Designated points of entry (DPE) and designated points of import (DPIs)

1. From 25 January 2010 imports of certain feed and food of non-animal origin, from third countries, that are considered to be „high-risk” approved as designated points of entry (DPEs) where official controls will be carried out. A list of the „high-risk” products, country of origin and the frequency of checks can be found at Annex I of Commission Regulation (EC) No 669/2009 of 24 July 2009 implementing Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the increased level of official controls on imports of certain feed and food of non-animal origin and amending Decision 2006/504/EC

2. From 1 January 2010 imports of certain foodstuffs from third countries, that are considered to be „Safeguard decisions as regards aflatoxins” approved as designated points of import (DPIs) where official controls will be carried out. A list of the „Safeguard foodstuffs”, country of origin and the frequency of checks can be found at Article 1 and Article 7 of Commission Regulation (EC) No 1152/2009 of 27 November 2009 imposing special conditions governing the import of certain foodstuffs from certain third countries due to contamination risk by aflatoxins and repealing Decision 2006/504/EC
